YEREVAN. - “Rise up, Armenia” civil initiative thinks that the “No” front against constitutional changes will achieve no success due to the absence of a necessary political program.

Andrias Ghukasyan, one of the leaders of the “Rise up, Armenia” initiative said that they abstained from joining the “No” front exactly for that reason, though the latter implements an important work.

“Rise up, Armenia” movement hasn’t seen any preconditions of success in that program since its very beginning. “We think there are no preconditions for fair elections in our country. We’re doing our best to support them, but the don’t carry out enough actions and have no serious political programs to implement significant changes in our country,” Ghukasyan said, explaining why the movement leaders didn’t join the first rally and march of the “No” front in Yerevan on Friday.

Nevertheless, Ghukasyan said that the members and participants of the movement’s public council were present at the rally and march.

Instead, “Rise up, Armenia” has joined the “Public Salvation Front”, which has adopted a policy of reaching power change via disobedience.

The first rally and march of the “No” front, comprised of political and public forces, took place in Yerevan’s Liberty Square yesterday.

The new draft Constitution, which provides switching to the parliamentary form of governance, has already been submitted to the parliament. The draft will be put on vote on Monday. The referendum is expected to take place during the first 10 days of December.
