YEREVAN. – The Armenian community plays a big role in Québec.

The Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie of the Canadian Province of Québec, Christine St-Pierre, stated the above-said at her talk Saturday with Edward Nalbandian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

To note, St-Pierre is in Armenia within the framework of the 31st meeting of the Ministerial Conference of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), which is held on Saturday and Sunday in capital city Yerevan.

Nalbandian, in turn, noted that he is happy to welcome the high-ranking delegation from Québec, and stressed that this Canadian province actively participates in the activities of La Francophonie, informed the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

The Québec official, for her part, highly praised the activeness and proactiveness Armenia has shown since the OIF summit that was convened in 2008 in Québec. She also appreciated the fact that Armenia has become a full OIF member in a short period, and it now hosts the Ministerial Conference of this organization.

At the ensuing talk, the interlocutors discussed the agenda of the current OIF Ministerial Conference.

In addition, Edward Nalbandian thanked for Québec’s principled stance regarding the matter of Armenian Genocide recognition. In this connection, Christine St-Pierre briefed the FM on the Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations in Canada, in general, and in Québec, in particular.
