YEREVAN. – France is ready to promote the process of creation of a new legal document between Armenia and EU, French Minister of State for the European Affairs Harlem Desir said during his meeting with President Serzh Sargsyan.

President Sargsyan noted that he was happy to see OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair from France as a member of the French delegation. President described relations between Armenia and France as “special” and noted that France is a close country to the Armenians.

The President noted with satisfaction that Armenia, being a relatively young member of the International Organization of La Francophonie, has managed to find its place and become an active member of the organization. According to him, thanks to co-operation in this area, Armenia has an entire education cycle in French language from preschool to university level.

Harlem Desir conveyed warm greetings from the President of France Francois Hollande and stressed that France is interested in developing economic relations that will be in line with high level political relations.

In this context, the French Minister noted importance of the Yerevan visit of the French President in May 2014 and the implementation of the documents signed during the visit. According to him, preparation for the second business forum is underway.

The officials also touched upon the relations between Armenia and the EU. Minister Desir said that France is ready to contribute as much as possible to the process of developing a new legal document between Armenia and the EU, to make efforts to achieve a better and effective results.

The sides exchanged views on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Mr. Desir assured that France, as a co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group, is more than ever convinced that there is no alternative to a peaceful settlement of the conflict and will do everything within the framework of its obligations.
