The General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces is considering the possibility of increasing its air squadron in Syria by ten to twelve more units.

Kommersant daily of Russia reported the aforesaid citing a source close to the Russian operative military agencies.

The interlocutor of the daily noted that, prior to the Russian Su-24’s downing by Turkey, the Russian warplanes flew over Syria without hiding because there was no potential threat to them from the land, and no one had seriously considered the risk of being attacked by coalition planes.

The Turkish air force on Tuesday shot down a Russian Su-24 attack aircraft/interdictor—which was taking part in the antiterrorism operations in Syria—on the Turkish-Syrian border.
