YEREVAN. – Kyrgyzstan likewise intends to implement constitutional amendments to switch to a parliamentary system of governance.

Speaker of the Supreme Council (parliament) of Kyrgyzstan, Asylbek Jeenbekov, noted the aforementioned at his talk Thursday in Saint Petersburg, Russia, with president Galust Sahakyan of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia.

The NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that Galust Sahakyan congratulated Asylbek Jeenbekov on his election as Speaker of the Kyrgyz parliament and expressed the hope that, during his tenure, parliamentary cooperation between Armenia and Kyrgyzstan will get even stronger.

Speaking about interparliamentary cooperation, Sahakyan highlighted the mutual assistance and cooperation at international platforms, and underscored their intensification.

Galust Sahakyan also invited the Speaker of the Kyrgyz parliament to Armenia on an official visit, and the invitation was gladly accepted.

Asylbek Jeenbekov, for his part, stated that Kyrgyzstan and Armenia are brotherly states, and stressed the necessity and importance of their cooperation.

Speaking about the forthcoming referendum on constitutional amendments in Armenia, Asylbek Jeenbekov noted that the Supreme Council of Kyrgyzstan will conduct an observation mission during this plebiscite. In this respect, head of the Kyrgyz parliament highlighted Armenia’s track-record on switching to a parliamentary system of government.

The interlocutors also highlighted the need to intensify cooperation between the two countries, and discussed the details of Asylbek Jeenbekov’s official visit to be paid to Armenia.
