All school-age children in border Pambak and Daranak villages of Armenia’s Gegharkunik province will from now on attend school with personal tablets. The 52 tablets were bought for them by Armenian News – NEWS.am news agency by the amount (1 mln 225,000 AMD and $6900 USD) raised during the annual charity event held on June 1, the International Child Protection Day.

The agency workers recently handed the presents to the pupils in Pambak-Daranak secondary schools (photos).  Thanks to the citizens who took part in the traditional charity event, the tablets were distributed to all the families which have schoolchildren.

According to the school headmaster Arthur Barseghyan, tablets are useful gifts, which will enlarge the educational opportunities of children in border villages and help keep up with their peers.

“Many of the children have no computer at home. The need of the tablets was noticeable: due to them the children and their parents will be able to use dasaran.am website. [Thus,] the parents will be able to see their children’s marks and attendance, and the ties between the parent and school will strengthen,” Barseghaybn told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

Apart from personal tablets, the children will have the opportunity to use the school computer, scanner, printer and Xerox, which have also been acquired by the amounts raised during the aforementioned charity event.

Furthermore, over dozens of popular scientific books have been donated to the school library.

Anahit Bakhshyan, member of “Barev Yerevan” faction of Yerevan’s City Council and Deputy Director of National Institute of Education, who always takes part in the annual charity event organized by Armenian News – NEWS.am, for her part gifted a new plaque to the school, which will substitute the old one with worn out letters.

According to Armenian News - NEWS.am representative Maria Asatryan, the citizens’ interest towards the charity event is growing each year.

“The number of citizens taking part in the already traditional charity sale of ice-cream organized by Armenian News – NEWS.am, is gradually growing. The amount raised this year exceeded last year’s indicator by several times. We’re happy that the culture of charity is gradually formed in the society,” she said.

In Asatryan’s words, the number of political, cultural and sports figures taking part in the ice-cream sale was also larger this year. Many of them were parallely selling ice-cream and participating in the outdoor concert held in the framework of the event.

The event organizers decided to equally share the remaining 909,000 AMD between two socially-vulnerable families: the Melkonyan family with 13 children residing in Aygavan village of Armenia’s Ararat province and the family of the killed contract soldier Hayk Tevoyan residing in Norashen village of Aragatsontn province.

Gohar Gasparyan, Erik Antaranyan, Lusine Tovmasyan, Irina Tovmasyan, Faina Harutyunyan and many others took part in the ice-cream charity sale.
