YEREVAN. - I consider absurd the statements of the authorities on that the promulgation of the voter lists is a violation of the right to vote by secret ballot.

“Prosperous Armenia” Party (PAP) MP Stepan Margaryan told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent.

“What secret do we talk about if numerous surveillance cameras are installed at the polling station, and the citizens who vote are being shot?” Margaryan said.

The MP sees a pitfall in the idea of holding elections according to the proportional system and rating lists of party candidates.  According to him, attempt is thereby made to liken the majority system of voting whereas the proportional system without the rating model contributes to the establishment of parties.

“If we say that the establishment of the political and partisan system is important, then let’s choose a purely proportional system. If not everything is done clearly, then there is a certain pitfall,” the MP said.

Margaryan, who was against the constitutional reforms, noted that he supports voting by fingerprints, which resolves several issues.

“The issue of preventing repeated voting and that of the [identification] document is being [thereby] solved. It will [thus] be possible to go and vote by any document confirming your identity,” the MP said. According to him, in this case the voter lists can be kept secret.
