Russian and Kazakh Presidents Vladimir Putin and Nursultan Nazarbayev on Monday had a telephonic conversation, during which they exchanged views also on the worsening Russian-Turkish relations.
“Putin reiterated that the Turkish side creates the difficulties, and in this connection, Turkey should take steps for the normalization [of these relations],” according to the statement released by the press service of the Kazakh president.
During his recent meeting with Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu of Turkey, Nazarbayev noted that the present-day crisis in Turkey-Russia relations is a major problem for Kazakhstan.
On November 24, 2015, the Turkish air force shot down a Russian Su-24 attack aircraft/interdictor nearby the Turkish-Syrian border. The warplane was taking part in the antiterrorism operations in Syria. This incident led to the ongoing strain in Turkey-Russia relations.
