The surprise inspections of combat readiness in the troops of the Southern Military Okrug (district) and separate units of Air Assault Forces and military transport aircraft of Russia is a message to Ankara.

Russian military expert Vladimir Yevseyev told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent.

According to him, this is an apparent opportunity to check the combat readiness of the troops. “On the one hand, there seems to be nothing unusual here. On the other hand, when Turkey concentrated all its troops along the Turkish-Syrian border, this kind of trainings became a certain message to Ankara on that Russia is ready to operate its Armed Forces on a full scale for ensuring the security of the Russian Federation. I think this message will most likely be heard,” Yevseyev said, stressing that this is a signal to Turkey to refrain from ill-considered actions.

The expert also noted that the 102nd Russian Military Base in Gyumri is also put on an alert.

“According to the combat readiness plan, it is working out the opportunity of defending the Armenian-Turkish border. Armenia must be confident that in line with its ally responsibilities, Russia will ensure the security of the Republic of Armenia if necessary, including at the expense of additional deployment of troops,” Yevseyev said.

Russian Minister of Defense, Sergey Shoygu, stated yesterday that surprise inspections have begun early in the morning in all military bases of the Southern Military Okrug of the Russian Armed Forces, including in the 102nd Russian Military Base in Gyumri, Armenia.
