Turks have completely lost the ability to orientate in the real world, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Moskovskiy Komsomolets, a Moscow-based daily newspaper.

The minister informed that the inadequate demeanor of Turkey was noticeable even before its downing of the Russian warplane.

“But we [i.e. Russia] were proceeding from the [belief] that common sense would eventually prevail and the Turks would realize that we are neighbors, and that we have not done anything bad to them,” Lavrov noted. “On the contrary, as Russian President Vladimir Putin noted, we have turned a blind eye to many things.”

And to the query on whether Russia should not have turned a blind eye to such things, the FM responded, “Perhaps.”

On November 24, 2015, the Turkish air force shot down a Russian Su-24 attack aircraft/interdictor nearby the Turkish-Syrian border. The warplane was taking part in the antiterrorism operations in Syria. This incident led to the ongoing strain in Turkey-Russia relations.
