The 102nd Russian Military Base in Gyumri, Armenia, is not for counteracting against the Turkish army, but for ensuring stability in that region.

Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Nikolay Bordyuzha, noted the aforesaid at a videoconference on Friday.

Commenting on the strained Russian-Turkish relations and the CSTO’s position in case of ensuing military actions, Bordyuzha said, in particular: “I hope everything will go in a political course. [But] the capacity of the 102nd base is sufficient to resolve the noted matters. And if it is put to use, naturally, it will operate with other means that will be accepted by the leaders of the regional countries. For that reason, I see no need to make some forces get active.”

As for the matter of strengthening the 102nd Russian Military Base, the CSTO Secretary General explained: “It’s not about the strengthening, but providing the unit the most modern weapons and bringing this unit of the Russian armed forces to the needed [level of] combat-readiness.”
