Scientists have deciphered the Ancient Egyptian papyruses written about 1700 years ago and have found out that they contain a number of love spells, Gazeta reported quoting the Live Science portal.

The Oxyrhynchus Papyri Collection was found 160 km to the southwest from Cairo more than 100 years ago. Egyptologists have analyzed two papyri and have found out that they contain the spells supposedly to help to charm a man or a woman. According to scientists, the Egyptians suffering from unfortunate love needed to perform also a certain magic ritual — otherwise the spell would not work. However, researchers find it difficult to say what these rituals were exactly.

In addition, inscriptions on the papyri said that both men and women were recommended to eat as much as possible pigeon eggs to increase the attractiveness as pigeon eggs were considered to be good aphrodisiac.
