YEREVAN. – The Haykakan Zhamanak newspaper sources close to the government have informed that, upon Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan’s instructions, inspections have begun in the gasoline market of Armenia, according to the newspaper.

“The reason was [the fact] that gasoline [prices] in Armenia went up by about 2.5 percent, since the beginning of this month.

“And this [price] increase was recorded after Hovik Abrahamyan’s announcement about fighting against monopolies [in the country]. And Abrahamyan has decided to counter this [price] increase, which he considers a move [taken] against him.

“These inspections have begun not so much to oversee the [gasoline] market [in Armenia], as much as within the framework of the existing battle between the wings that exist within the powers that be.

“Abrahamyan, or his close circles, have nothing to do with [the] gasoline [market in Armenia], but they sense that due to the growing economic problems [in the country], this time they may be sacrificed. So, they decided to counteract this fall, with this and other similar steps,” wrote Haykakan Zhamanak.
