The status quo cannot be preserved for so long, it needs to be changed, and the change should be done through negotiations, said James Appathurai, the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, in Warsaw  to the Freedom.

"There are many ideas on the negotiation table. The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan has recently visited the NATO, after the meeting with his Armenian counterpart. Both clearly presented their approaches. We truly believe that the status quo cannot be preserved for so long, it needs to be changed, and the change should be done through negotiations, " said Appathurai.

He also emphasized that the NATO is watching what is going on between Armenia and Azerbaijan .

"Both [countries] are important partners for the NATO. We have a concern  about that issue, and it was most evident during the four-day clashes in April , which were different from the small scale incidents observed before. Fortunately , both countries have refrained from that, in my opinion ,  very dangerous situation, " said Appathurai . The NATO's senior official also said that today the situation is a little better, but it might again get worse, and it is essential to make greater efforts for the settlement .

As earlier reported, on July 8 , the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan left for Poland to participate in the NATO summit on issues of Afghanistan . The issue of Nagorno- Karabakh will also be discussed during the summit. The meeting of Serge Sargsyan with the US Secretary of State John Kerry will take place shortly.
