YEREVAN. – About 80 percent of persons with dual citizenship are in Armenia.

Deputy Chief of Police Vardan Yeghiazaryan on Tuesday noted the above-said at the National Assembly, as he introduced the bill on amendments to the Law on Citizenship.

He added that most Armenian citizens get a second citizenship in Russia.

In Yeghiazaryan’s words, at present, close to 95 thousand dual citizens are registered at Police of Armenia.

The deputy police chief informed that, pursuant to a proposed amendment to the aforesaid law, the Armenian citizens who also get citizenship of another country will no longer have to inform about this to Police of Armenia.

“This provision is not a general condition of the exercise of rights for the citizens,” stressed Vardan Yeghiazaryan. “[But] the obligation of informing about dual citizenship may refer solely to persons being appointed to [official] positions [in Armenia].”
