French President Nicolas Sarkozy said appeal to the Constitutional Council regarding the genocide bill will do French Senators a bad turn, Le Monde writes.

Addressing the parliamentary majority on Tuesday, Sarkozy said if the bill is canceled, appeal against criminalization of Holocaust denial may also be introduced, one of the senators told AFP.

Constitutional Council of France accepted on Tuesday Senators’ appeal against the bill criminalizing genocide denial.

Seventy-two signatures have been collected so far, although only 60 were enough. The Council will decide whether the law is constitutional within a month. An appeal to the Constitutional Council puts the law on hold.
