On the night of July 6, the Russian military launched a second massive attack on Kyiv in a week using missiles and drones. According to the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, 10 people were killed in the attack, and another 46, including five children, were injured. “Unfortunately, this is not the final information. Rescue operations are ongoing,” Tkachenko wrote on his Telegram channel.

During the attack, strikes hit multi-story residential buildings in different districts of the city. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, at least 15 residential buildings were destroyed or damaged. In particular, in the Podilskyi district, a nine-story building partially collapsed from the 9th to the 5th floor, leaving people trapped inside. A 21-story building was also destroyed from the 5th to the 2nd floor. In addition, in the Darnytskyi district, debris ignited fires in 25-story and 30-story residential buildings. The State Emergency Service said firefighters are still extinguishing the fires and searching for people under the rubble.

The Kyiv region was also hit. During the Russian attack, one person was killed in the Bucha district, and another 10 suffered injuries and wounds of varying severity, said the head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk. According to him, private homes, businesses, and other civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged in the Bucha, Vyshhorod, and Brovary districts.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the Russian military had struck Kyiv “in response to terrorist attacks by the Kyiv regime on civilian infrastructure on Russian territory.” According to the ministry, the targets of the attack were “military-industrial enterprises and fuel and energy facilities” in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, as well as infrastructure at military airfields in the Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions.

Before that, the Russian military carried out a massive missile-and-drone strike on the Ukrainian capital on July 2. At that time, 31 people were killed and 102 were injured when residential high-rise buildings were hit. The attack became one of the deadliest of the entire war. The only times the death toll in the Ukrainian capital was higher were on December 29, 2023 (33 people), July 8, 2024 (33), and July 31, 2025 (31).
