YEREVAN.- Mother of Nairi Hunanyan, sentenced to life imprisonment over the 1999 Armenian parliament shooting, was found dead in the sea, two meters away from beach of Yevpatoria, a city in Crimea.

The rescuers took the body of 64-year-old woman out of the water on the night of November 23. Armenia Today reported the woman was identified as Natella Galstyan, mother of Nairi Hunanyan.

The emergency ministry and internal ministry of Ukraine refused to provide any details quoting the law banning disclosure of the facts.

The reports were confirmed for Armenian News-NEWS.am by the representatives of local Armenian community.

Armenia’s Justice Ministry has not received any reports on death of Nairi Hunanyan’s mother, spokesperson Gor Ghlechyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He said an inmate may be released for a short period of time to attend the funeral of a close relative taking into account the measure of restraint. However, this is not applied to life-term prisoners, Ghlechyan added.

A terrorist group headed by Nairi Hunanyan entered the Armenian National Assembly (NA) sessions’ hall, on October 27, 1999 and killed several of the country’s Government and Parliament members.
