YEREVAN. – The decision on deploying CSTO peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh is possible only with the consent of two states Armenia and Azerbaijan, CSTO chief said during Moscow-Yerevan space bridge.

In case of Nagorno-Karabakh, he said “the issue of peacekeeping mission was not placed in front of us”, Nikolay Bordyuzha said.  

Asked about the expected completion and re-equipping of the military units of the Southern Military District of Russia, which also includes the 102nd military base stationed in Gyumri, Secretary General said the demand of maintaining the balance of arms between all countries and especially between Armenia and its neighbors is taken into account while making such decisions.

“As to re-equipment of the Russian army, this is a constant process. The 102nd base is also included in these forces, and it is also subject to continuous improvement,” Bordyuzha said.

He added that the process of rearmament of teh Russian armed forces with new weapons will be completed soo.

“As part of this plan, re-equipment of the group in Russia’s south is being carried out,” he concluded.

Earlier the Russian Defense Ministry issued a statement saying that the military units of the Southern Military District, which also includes the 102nd military base in Gyumri, will get new and upgraded military equipment by the end of this year.
