After Turkish Parliament rejected the key article #8 of the Constitutional reforms’ package on May 3, next day it passed an important one #17 by 337 votes.

Premier Erdogan expected the approval with excitement, right after the adoption ruling party MPs started to congratulate each other.

Article #17 in the Constitutional reforms says that the number of permanent members in Turkish Constitutional Court should be increased from 11 to 17.

May 3, article #8 complicating the procedure of political parties’ dissolution submitted to the Parliament by Erdogan, failed to receive the necessary 330 votes.

Dissolution of political parties is carried out through CC, and increasing the number of permanent members the ruling party tried to shield itself from dissolution threat. In 2008 Erdogan’s party escaped it with difference in one vote.
