Turkey and Georgia plan to construct a high-voltage power line (1,000 MW), Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz stated today.

He signed a relevant agreement with his Georgian counterpart Alexander Khetaguri in Ankara in July, 2009.

Minister Yildiz pointed out that 130km of the line will run through the Turkish territory, and 25km — through Georgia. He added the project is estimated at U.S. $140mln, with each side to fund the construction on its own territory, that is projected to complete by 2012.

At the signing ceremony Georgian Minister Khetaguri explained that the new line is designed to transmit the energy surplus from Georgia to Turkey and further to Europe. He pointed out that the line will also be used to transmit electric power from the Caspian countries and Azerbaijan.
