The prices on dairy products in Yerevan have gone up by 5-10 percent. This is a part of the universal rise in price, which is a result of the rise on grain price. The prices on dairy products are going up in Russia as well, where due to drought feeding the livestock has become a problem. Some Russian producers are even importing feed. The Russian Minister of Agriculture Yelena Skrynnik had to announce today that the country will not undergo a milk shortage, since dairy products will be imported from Belarus if necessary. Besides, the setting up of average price on purchasing milk from livestock farms is being seriously discussed in Russia. This is to prevent the skyrocketing of the dairy prices. At present, milk is bought from livestock farms for an average of 12,5 rubles (approximately 150 AMD).

Armenia imported about 7400 tons of dairy in 2010, of which 2600 tons from Belarus and 1500 from Russia. Due to the drought, the import from Russian might stop, and dairy from Belarus might become expensive, since the demand for it will grow. Armenia produces about 3000 tons of milk and twenty-six thousand tons of dairy (17000 tons of cheese, 2,500 tons of matsun, 3000 tons of sour cream and etc.).
