Prospects of deployment of the Turkish military base in Azerbaijan are real and may change geopolitical situation and balance of forces in the region, Russian State Duma MP Konstantin Zatulin told NEWS.am, commenting on the reports by the Azeri press saying that Turkish troops may be deployed in Nakhchivan.
He stressed this strategy follows the logic of Baku-Ankara cooperation and conforms to “Two states - one nation” formula. However, Zatulin noted that Turkish troops are not guests in Azerbaijan at all, as at present they are training the Azerbaijani servicemen. He also added that deployment of the Turkish base in the Karabakh conflict zone is fraught with new threats. Russia, the CSTO and the entire world should be concerned over this fact, he emphasized.
Prospects of deployment of the Turkish military base in Nakhchivan were also discussed during Turkish President Abdullah Giul’s visit to Azerbaijan.
