Iran invites neighboring states to join a free trade zone they intend to create with Turkey, Iranian Assistant First Vice President Ali Aga Muhammedi told the reporters in Baku. “The Iranian and Turkish sides will end talks in the next few months. We confirm our invitation to the neighboring states to join this zone,” he said.

As to economic ties with Azerbaijan, he noted that Iran is interested in full economic cooperation between the states. “We intend to use all potential of bilateral economic relations to fulfill this goal. There are many projects realization of which will be beneficial for both countries. We have come to Azerbaijan to raise economic relations to the highest level that should comply with friendly and fraternal ties between our countries,” he stressed.

Earlier, Turkish Trade and Industry Minister Nihat Ergun stated that Ankara and Tehran have almost reached an agreement on creation of a free trade zone. “After the project is carried out, neighboring states, firstly Azerbaijan and Georgia, will be able to join it. It is not ruled out that Armenia will join it as well, after the Turkish-Armenian relations are normalized,” the Minister said.
