The Armenian National Committee of France (ANCF) condemns the French Constitutional Council’s annulment of the French National Assembly decision on criminalizing the denial of genocides and mass murders on national or religious grounds. 

Co-chairman of the Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations in France (CCAF), Mourad Papazian, on Friday told above-said to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“We condemn the Constitutional Council decision; it’s unfounded,” he noted. “We knew that there is a risk; it’s possible that it [i.e. the Council] may reject [this decision], as it happened in 2012, but we were optimistic.”

In Papazian’s words, however, this decision of the Constitutional Council cannot make the ANCF end its struggle toward Armenian Genocide recognition.

“But, first, we need to figure out how we will continue our struggle,” added the CCAF co-chairman. “Turkey’s political pressures may have affected the Constitutional Council.

“We worked hard on this law with French and our lawyers, so that this law would be passed. But the Constitutional Council made such a decision.”
