YEREVAN. – The Armenian parliament’s delegation headed by speaker Galust Sahakyan was received by chairman of the House of Representatives of Japan Tadamori Oshima during an official visit to Japan.

The Japanese lawmaker thanked Armenian MPs for coming to Japan and said that the assured that the visit opens a new stage of development of the Armenian-Japanese parliamentary relations.

Mr. Oshima during the meeting, in particular, noted that the Armenian-Japanese relations are at a high level, which is the result of the official visit of President Serzh Sargsyan to Japan in 2012.

Speaker Galust Sahakyan also stressed the importance of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries and noted: “Development of relations with Japan is a key point in Armenia’s foreign policy agenda. It is worth noting that Armenian parliamentary delegation's official visit to Japan coincides with the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.”

Over the past 25 years, Armenia and Japan have created a dynamic format of cooperation based on goodwill, partnership and mutual benefit.

The sides also touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the Armenian Genocide, in particular noting that the problem should be resolved exclusively by peaceful means, and noted the important role of condemnation of the committed crimes.

Expressing sympathy for the soldiers fallen in the April war, the speaker of the House of Representatives of the Japanese Parliament, said that Japan supports exclusively peaceful solution to the Karabakh conflict, and continues to contribute to the work of the OSCE Minsk Group.

National Assembly delegation headed by Chairman also met with the head of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Yasushi Akahoshi and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Shinichi Kitaoka. The issues of development of trade as well as cultural relations were discussed.
