Although the international diamond prices have not shown any fall this year, cut diamonds exported from Armenia have shown a decrease in price of almost 3.3 times.

This year’s export price of one carat is U.S. $191 against last year’s U.S. $640.

Cut diamond price is traditionally set terms of U.S. dollars – even in Russia, where the Russia ruble is the only legal tender for calculations. As regards cut diamonds, the 4C factor should be considered. So the price may range from U.S. $100 up to several thousand U.S. dollars par carat.

Armenia has traditionally been working in the market of average prices – U.S. $500-1,000 per carat. Diamonds cut in Armenia are believed to be higher quality than in China or Indian, the world leaders in diamond cutting. However, Armenia may be changing its role in the international cut diamond market. The Russian company ALROSA is the principal supplier of rough diamonds to Armenia now, whereas Belgium and Israel were principal suppliers before. Most probably, the Russian company is not supplying high-quality rough diamonds to Armenia.
