YEREVAN. - A consultation on the parliamentary elections took place in the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia on Friday.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Tigran Mukuchyan, representatives of the EU Delegation to Armenia and OSCE/ODIHR observation group, observer NGOs, workers of the Armenian Human Rights Defender's Office, Armenian Police, as well as those of the Investigative Committee and Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Armenia.

Among the discussed topics were the activity related to the upcoming elections, possible violations, studying of alerts received from citizens and press publications, joint work in case of the need to launch criminal cases, as well as the cooperation between the law enforcement authorities, civil society, CEC and observers.

Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan underscored the importance of toughening the punishment for repeated voting of one and the same person or voting for another person. According to him, such a punishment will have a great preventive significance.

Davtyan also touched on an encouragement norm for revealing the voter bribes. Thus, if a person receiving a bribe informs the law enforcement authorities about this within three days after receiving it (unless they find it out themselves) and help investigation, he/she will be exonerated.

CEC Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan, for his part, underscored the importance of installing surveillance cameras at all the polling stations and selecting technical maintenance specialists.

Political Officer of the EU Delegation, Andrea Chalupová, welcomed the amendments to the Electoral Code, attaching special importance to the surveillance cameras and publication of voter lists.
