The Collective Security Treaty is not directed against anyone. This was stated by the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in an interview with Mir.

According to Sargsyan, the states signed it, proceeding from the need to unite efforts in ensuring security in the CSTO zone. Thus, there hasn’t been any issue of private gains. The sooner the CSTO gets adjusted to the current realities, the better it will be for all the participants of the Collective Security Treaty. "

According to Sargsyan, the major threat for Armenia is the state that has developed in our region. “That is, the wish of Azerbaijan to solve the Karabakh issue by using force. We announced them, and in fact there are guarantors of the security of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh," he said.

The President noted, that Armenia is situated about 400 kilometers from the zone of actions of the IS. "This means that the events that take place in the Middle East are directly related to our security. Taken into account, that many citizens of the CIS countries are involved in the activities of the IS, sooner or later, those people who have military experience and barbaric methods might find themselves in our region as well. It will add additional difficulties to our fragile stability. Unfortunately, we can hear the Arabic and other voices on the other side of the contact. It seems, that people, who gradually left the Middle East begin getting involved in the conflicts in our region. It is, of course, very, very dangerous. There are many other challenges in the modern world. One cannot diminished them. They are a lot. “

Serzh Sargsyan reminded, that Armenia is a founding member of the CSTO, which imposes additional obligations on Yerevan. "We see our role in conscientiously fulfilling our obligations and established requirements of our organization. Because this is, in my opinion, the first thing that all the member states should do to strengthen the CSTO, "he said.

According to him, the world is changing. "We have just talked about the terrorist threat. 25 years ago, I would never think, that there would be such a threat, and it would be on such a scale at that. Therefore, our organization must get adjusted and develop. Last year we adopted a collective security strategy until 2025 at the meeting of the Council in Yerevan. From the very beginning of our presidency, this has been our most critical task, and we have able to fulfill it. This strategy outlines the main guidelines for the development of our organization in all the areas. I think that the development of the CSTO is important for both Armenia and other members of our organization. "
