The Karabakh conflict is a typical case of people's struggle for self-determination, Armenian Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan during a meeting with Russian journalists.
He noted that the Armenian parties are open for the negotiation process. However, Sargsyan said, we believe that the search for a solution is directly related to the recognition and respect of the people's right to self-determination, all other issues are derived from this.
“They must be solved taking into account the need to ensure the security of the people of NKR and its right to free development. Unfortunately, the attempts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs are periodically ruined by Azerbaijan since the neighboring country is not targeted at finding a solution to the conflict. Baku protracts the solution to the conflict by building up its weapons, using anti-Armenian, Armenian-hate rhetoric at all levels up to the head of state. It is simply impossible to prepare the society for compromises on the Karabakh issue in such environment.
We are not tired of working for peace, but we must be prepared for any developments, because Azerbaijan completely lacks a system of democratic and civil control over the Armed Forces, which means that the chance of resuming hostilities in the conflict zone can be estimated from zero to 100%. The decision is not conditioned or limited by anything. I hope that Baku understands that any escalation can lead to a large-scale war, which will provoke chaos, but it will not solve the Karabakh problem, because there is no military solution,” he concluded.
