YEREVAN. – President Serzh Sargsyan on Friday received a delegation, led by Ignacio Sánchez Amor, special coordinator and head of the election short-term observation mission of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which is in Armenia to monitor Sunday’s parliamentary election in the country.

Sargsyan underscored the role of the OSCE observation missions in the electoral process in Armenia, and the support given to the country over the course of the past 25 years, the press office of the President informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Stressing that the forthcoming National Assembly election is an important milestone in terms of the fulfillment of the vision for effective governance in Armenia, the President noted that it is from this viewpoint that the country’s authorities highlight the increasing of voter confidence. He added that the authorities will do everything possible to hold high-quality elections. 

In addition, Sargsyan considered it highly important that all observation missions demonstrate a balanced and impartial approach, and make their assessments on the basis of their own observations and reliable information.

Sánchez Amor, for his part, assured that there will be no deviation from their professional work, and that the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) will continue carrying out its mission with the same high professional quality and conscientiousness. Also, he welcomed and encouraged the ongoing reforms in Armenia.
