A present amount of Armenia’s national debt totaling $4.3 m is not risky and the government is capable of lifting this burden, Armenian Finance Minister Tigran Davtyan said speaking at the parliament.

He stressed that increase in national debt is conditioned by financial crisis, but the government took this step with a low debt-to-GDP ratio - 12%-14%. At the moment ratio makes 43%-44%. Davtyan also noted that obtaining of credits amid crisis justified itself, as the government managed to ensure economic stability and fulfill social commitments.

However, the Finance Minister confessed that one should be cautious about national debt. “The executive branch keeps track of the issue and cooperates with international experts, conducting permanent monitoring,” he added.
