Japan supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group aimed at the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Japanese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Teruyuki Katori said in an interview with APA.

Japan expects peaceful resolution based on the principles of international law, the diplomat said.

“As to our territorial dispute with Russia, it emerged as a result of the WWII. Each party has its stance on this issue. Solving such issues after the war and by means of talks is very complicated. First of all, our PM [Shinzō] Abe continues to exert efforts towards building good relations with Russia. The aim is to sign a truce. Before that we should establish good political and economic relations so that the nationals of both countries can return to their homeland.

"I think the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict does not involve only two parties. It should rather be approached from the context of regional issues and geopolitics. It is very difficult to resolve this conflict between the two countries alone. For its settlement, it is necessary to cooperate with countries related thereto, neighboring countries and international organizations. This is the difference between our conflict, since our issue can be resolved only between two counties, that is Russia and Japan," the ambassador said.
