YEREVAN. - Deputy Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly (NA) Arpine Hovhannisyan on Thursday received special envoys for Eastern Partnership of foreign ministries of EU member states Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Slovakia, Sweden and the Netherlands headed by Ambassador Dušan Dacho, who is the special envoy of the Slovakian MFA.

Welcoming the EU envoys, Arpine Hovhannisyan underscored the importance of Armenia-EU cooperation and the programs being implemented in Armenia within the framework of the Eastern Partnership. During the meeting, the deputy speaker touched upon the anti-corruption reforms underway. According to her, the NA will soon discuss the bills on the establishment of an anti-corruption body.

Referring to the parliamentary election, the interlocutors pointed out the reforms implemented in the electoral system of Armenia.

Furthermore, Arpine Hovhannisyan presented  in detail the process of the Judicial Code drafting and the guarantees for ensuring the judges’ independence. At the envoys’ request, the Draft Law “On domestic violence” was touched on as well.

By the end of the meeting, both parties attached importance to the signing of the Armenian-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement. The EU special envoys lauded the progress recorded in Armenia over the last eighteen months, considering this as a good basis for strengthening democracy and improving human rights protection.
