YEREVAN. – The war in April 2016 showed the balance of forces, and, subsequently, the balance of the forces increased in Armenia’s favor, and I can’t imagine large-scale military actions.

Armenia’s Caucasus Institute Director, political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan, expressed such a view at a discussion on Wednesday, as he commented on the latest report by the International Crisis Group.

“If we speak about the real political prospect, there will be no war for one or two years, in the case of the current balance of forces, and, respectively, in foreign Intervention, too,” the analyst noted.

Iskandaryan added that there is always interference in the process of restraining the conflicting parties from violence and tension.

“I wouldn’t call this mediation, but pressure,” he stressed. “It doesn’t lead to strong results, since the political tools are not enough, and there are no others, or they are not used. For that reason, the situation will remain roughly the same as it is [now], if force majeure events don’t occur in Azerbaijan.”
