Constitutional amendments can be made in Armenia solely through political consensus, National Assembly (NA) President Ara Babloyan said on Tuesday.

He stated this when asked about his view on the proposed constitutional amendments, according to which the NA shall get a chance to self-dissolution.

“That’s a political process, and it can be a result of discussion, consensus,” Babloyan explained. “It can’t be a wish of one or two people, or a politician; it should be the result of consensus.”

At the same time he said he could not speculate on the exact timeframes for the snap parliamentary election.

“We have created a respective working group at the National Assembly, [and] which is working on legislative amendments,” Ara Babloyan added. “[But] these works haven’t been completed yet.”
