The units of Azerbaijani Armed Forces attempted to carry out engineering works in the neutral territory between the combat positions of the northeastern sector of the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border on Tuesday afternoon in the vicinity of Berdavan village.

Their aim was to push positions closer to Armenian trenches, the Armenian Defense Ministry reported.

Ignoring the warnings of the Armenian frontline units, the Azerbaijani forces opened fire toward the Armenian military positions. The Armenian side opened response fire, silencing the adversary and suspending the engineering works.

The Armenian government issued a formal statement on the upcoming meeting of Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev.

The meeting will take place in Vienna and will be held under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group.

On the margins of his visit, the Armenian PM will also meet with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, and President Alexander Van der Bellen. He is also expected to also get together with representatives of the local Armenian community.

Speaking in the parliament about the agenda of the meeting, Pashinyan said the Armenian side’s understanding of the agenda for the Karabakh settlement has not changed. He added that there is no specific agenda at the initial phase.

A fellow soldier has been detained in connection with the death of Ara Arakelyan, a conscript in the Artsakh Defense Army.

Earlier Defense Army said Ara Arakelyan sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Another serviceman was wounded as well. A fellow serviceman of these victims has been detained on suspicion of committing this crime.

Council of Europe supports democratic reforms in Armenia, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Liliane Maury Pasquier said during her visit to Yerevan.

PACE President held meetings with Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan. The interlocutors discussed the perspectives for deepening of the bilateral partnership, and Pasquier welcomed the initiative to undertake reforms.

Pasquier also visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial. She toured the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute and made a note in its guestbook.

Armenia's national football team suffered a 0-2 defeat from Finland during the second round of the EURO 2020 qualifiers at the Republican Stadium in Yerevan.

Commenting on Armenia’s second defeat in a row, manager Armen Gyulbudaghyants said his team made mistakes and failed to use opportunities to score.

“I am pleased with some aspects of the game of my team, but overall I am dissatisfied,” he added.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President of the Armenian Football Federation (AFF) Artur Vanetsyan attended the match.
