The Supreme Judicial Council of Armenia has issued a statement on the extraordinary election for the vacant position of judge member of the Supreme Judicial Council to be held by the General Assembly of Judges on August 16, 2019.

“By virtue of the regulations in parts 4 and 5 of Article 76 of the Constitutional Law “Judicial Code of the Republic of Armenia”, on August 1, 2019, the director of the Judicial Department sent notices to 9 judges of the Civil and Administrative Chamber of the Court of Cassation entitled to be elected judge members of the Supreme Judicial Council. The Civil and Administrative Chamber of the Court of Cassation sent 4 applications of judge candidates of the Supreme Judicial Council to not include their names on the ballot. The head of the Judicial Department will include the names of the following 5 judges in the ballot for election for the vacant position of judge member of the Supreme Judicial Council: Suren Antonyan, Mamikon Drmeyan, Gor Hakobyan, Stepan Mikayelyan, Tigran Petrosyan,” the statement reads.
