Former head of the State Revenue Committee Gagik Khachatryan’s attorney Yerem Sargsyan on Wednesday appealed the decision on arresting Khachatryan. This is what Yerem Sargsyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to Sargsyan, the aim of Khachatryan’s arrest is illegitimate. Yesterday Sargsyan told journalists that the law envisages arresting a person to prevent a crime or the possible escape immediately after arrest.

However, according to the attorney, the alleged misuse attributed to Khachatryan was committed in 2010, in 2015-16, that is, arrest couldn’t have been an aim to prevent misuse. Yesterday it was announced that the Investigation Department of the National Security Service instituted a criminal case in relation to squander in particularly large amounts and misuse of official position, within the scope of which a charge was filed and Khachatryan was arrested.
