A while ago, the Yerevan court of general jurisdiction, under the chairmanship of Judge Artush Gabrielyan, rendered a decision to uphold the motion filed by an investigator of the Investigation Department of the National Security Service of Armenia and detained former Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia Gagik Khachatryan for two months, but deemed the decision on the arrest of Khachatryan to be unlawful.

Gagik Khachatryan’s attorney Yerem Sargsyan challenged the decision on Khachatryan’s arrest and insisted that it was illegitimate. According to the attorney, the law provides for arresting a person to prevent a crime or possible escape immediately after commission of the crime, but the alleged misuse attributed to Khachatryan, according to the lawyer, was committed in 2010 and in 2015-16, that is, there could be no aim to prevent the crimes through arrest.

Gagik Khachatryan is charged with misuse of official position and squander in particularly large amounts.
