Former Human Rights Defender of Artsakh, human rights activist Ruben Melikyan is in the yard of the Constitutional Court of Armenia. Today the Constitutional Court reported that it will announce the decision on the constitutionality of the grounds for detaining second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan.
Ruben Melikyan stated that he has come to express support to the Constitution and the Constitutional Court.
“The public resonance of the case, the news and outflow, due to pressure on judges of the Constitutional Court, are making people who respect the Constitution and laws to express support to the Constitution and the Constitutional Court in any way. Whatever decision the Constitutional Court renders, I wanted to be here when the Constitutional promulgates the decision. I wouldn’t say I’m expecting or not expecting a certain decision. I believe this decision is extremely important as another milestone for our state in terms of its public resonance and significance. We need to overcome the threshold and risk of overthrow of constitutional order and pressure on judges and we, as a society, need to be more mature.”
