YEREVAN. – Being in the executive [branch of power], it’s very difficult for me to comment on the decision of the Constitutional Court. Vladimir Karapetyan, Press Secretary of the Prime Minister, told this to reporters after Thursday’s Cabinet session of the government of Armenia.

He noted this when asked to comment on the Constitutional Court’s (CC) partially granting on Wednesday the petition by second president Robert Kocharyan, and which questions the constitutionality of the grounds for remanding him in custody.

“That decision has some peculiarities,” Karapetyan said. “[But] I believe lawyers will give more accurate and better comments.”

As for the remarks that the government has delayed the judicial reforms and the aforesaid CC decision is a consequence of that, he noted: “We have said many times that it would have been better for the judicial reforms to take place quicker. But now I assure you that we are moving forward very fast. The relevant conceptual documents will be made public soon.”
