There is a great temptation to solve issues at once. This is what Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan told journalists today, touching upon the reforms in the judiciary.

He informed that even though judicial reforms have been launched, the implementation of those reforms is a long process. “Currently, Armenia has fair and independent courts, and I hope every judge is guided by his or her conscience and the Republic of Armenia when rendering decisions.”

When told that government officials say the judiciary is in a crisis, yet no steps are being taken, and perhaps they are waiting for President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan voluntarily resigns, Mirzoyan said the following: “I have stated that the Constitutional Court is in a legal crisis. The legal community has varying opinions. From the legal perspective, it is safe to say that there is a great temptation to solve this or that issue at once, but Armenia can’t overlook international commitments and the existing legal regulations. I am certain that the country needs to develop by following the laws.”

The parliamentary speaker said many lawyers had shared the opinion of judge of the Constitutional Court Vahe Grigoryan on the shortcomings of the judiciary, other lawyers said it was not a ground, and others also talked about the activities of the Constitutional Court, but, according to Mirzoyan, there has to be 100% confidence in the Court.
