YEREVAN. – A new president has been elected Monday at the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Armenia.  Academician Ashot Saghyan, a member of the presidium of the academy, was elected to this position. Armenian News-NEWS.am was informed about this from the NAS.

Three candidates were nominated for the post of NAS President.

According to the respective, the NAS President is elected by its General Meeting, and for a five-year term.

The same person cannot be elected NA President more than twice in a row.

Outgoing President of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Radik Martirosyan, has been serving in this capacity since 2006.
