Armenia brought disgrace upon itself during PACE President Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu’s visit. He himself said that he visited Armenia as a Turkish delegate, Head of the Armenia Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) (ARFD) parliamentary faction Vahan Hovhannisyan stated in Parliament.

“The warm reception Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu had in Armenia runs counter to logic. The authorities showed unprecedented constructivism to a person who refused to visit the Memorial to the Armenian Genocide victims by welcoming his ‘pragmatic views’. Moreover, at their meeting with Çavuşoğlu the authorities decided to ‘fix’ the main aims of the subcommittee on Karabakgh, without uttering a single word that we object to such a committee, as such a committee within PACE is just a disaster for us,” Hovhannisyan said.

The Opposition did not “behave well” by complaining about Armenia to a Turk. “What did we get after a Turk began to teach us lessons, without mentioning the terrible past of his own country?” Hovhannisyan asked with indignation. He called for sparing no efforts to prevent the formation of a PACE subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh. “We must draw serious conclusions from the present situation, considering the fact that Turkey, assisted by our ‘partner’ Russia, is interfering in the Minsk process,” Hovhannisyan said.

Ruben Gevorgyan of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) declared against the subcommittee and Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu’s mission. He also stated that the formation of a subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh only meets Azerbaijan’s interests. Accoding to him, the Armenian side must do its best to prevent the formation of such a committee.

“Turkish officials’ biased attitude — Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu’s statements are evidence of it – prove once more that Turks cannot be entrusted with high posts at international organizations,” stated Gagik Melikyan of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA). According to him, not only the rotation principle, but also candidates’ ability to make sober and impartial judgments must be taken into account at international organizations.
