May 21, the Assembly of Tbilisi Armenians convened a conference to express its concern over the disregard of the 86-thousand-strong Armenian community at the local elections scheduled for March 30.
The Assembly is particularly concerned over the fact that the slates of most popular parties do not include Armenian candidates’ names. Not only the interests, but also the contribution the 86,000 voters made to the city’s development, were ignored by the compilers of the slates, the Assembly’s statement says.
Certain parties’ slates contain Armenian names at the botton, whereas that of the ruling parties does not include a single one. The Assembly of Tbilisi Armenians called for boycotting the political parties’ slates. However, realizing the importance of the elections, Assembly called on Tbilisi residents to display civic consciousness.
