PreferredYEREVAN. – Such provocations and incidents have happened and can happen again. Deputy defense minister Arman Sargsyan on Tuesday told this to reporters in the National Assembly of Armenia—and referring to the recent shots fired by Azerbaijan in the direction of Verin Shorzha village of Gegharkunik Province, as well as in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
"I assess the border situation as not so tense in recent times. But no one can rule out that there may be some tension at any moment," Sargsyan added.
He noted that no secrets were kept from the Armenian society.
"We have provided the information; maybe in one case, a little later, in another case, very operatively. If the situation at the border were tense, you would be informed. We publicize everything, the official information is given, I will advise [you] to follow the news," said the deputy defense minister. "We live in a region that is not stable, and it is understandable to me that there may be shootings."
To the question as to how he assesses when, on the one hand, there is talk of an "era of peace" but, on the other hand, the Azerbaijani side fires at Armenian civilians, Arman Sahakyan responded as follows: "And have you seen a country at war that does not speak of peace? Everyone speaks [of peace], but not everyone strives for real peace. Armenia wants to open an era of peace, towards which steps are being taken."
