An incident took place a while ago at Freedom Square, in downtown Yerevan, where a sit-in and a hunger strike are continuing for several days now.

An opposition activist hit an elderly man.

And the police apprehended this activist.

Former MP Naira Zohrabyan told reporters: "A not sober elderly man approached and addressed the boys on hunger strike in an incorrect lexicon, after which this incident arose. Of course, using violence is absolutely unacceptable; but I believe our police will prevent the problem. He is one of our constant opposition protesters; his name is Artur."

Earlier, Armenian News-NEWS.am reported that Artur Vanetsyan, the leader of the opposition "With Honor" Faction of the National Assembly and chairman of the opposition Homeland party of Armenia, announced on April 17 the start of protests—and with no term or end—at Freedom Square in downtown Yerevan. Sometime thereafter, Nver Kirakosyan and Artur Avagyan—two participants of the 44-day Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) war in the fall of 2020—announced an indefinite hunger strike, and they came to Freedom Square Monday morning to start this hunger strike.
