France has banned the sale, storage and transport of fireworks over Bastille Day - a national holiday in France celebrated every year on July 14 - next week over fears of renewed unrest.

"In order to prevent the risk of serious public disorder during the July 14 festivities, the sale, carrying, transport and use of pyrotechnics and fireworks is prohibited throughout France until July 15," said the decree published in France's official government journal on Sunday.

The decree, which is effective immediately, will not apply to professionals or communities that organize fireworks on holidays.
