There is a downward trend in terms of Armenia’s exports and imports, but 2023 was a specific year because the amount of re-exports in the general economic activity was quite large. Martin Galstyan, Governor of the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA), stated about this at a press conference Tuesday—and referring to the remark that if we remove the part of re-exporting of gold, it turns out that Armenia’s exports have decreased by 15.6 percent, and the imports—by 10 percent.

"If we compare with normal times, the amount of our export and import is currently much higher than in previous years," added Galstyan.

And to the question that if we consider that there are no opportunities for re-exports, can we say that Armenia will return to the January 2022 indicators, the CBA chief answered: "We're not going to be back to the level we had in 2019 or 2020, we're going to be at higher levels."
